Letter: This Snowbird longs for New Jersey’s roads

Recently, I became one of those who come down to Florida for the winter — one of many who clog up your roads, take your parking spots in malls, and generally annoy you between November and April. I want to give my experiences with Florida drivers. Living in New Jersey has given me a foot up.

First, some Floridians have no idea what “yield” means. Twice recently, I was nearly killed by folks who not only don’t bother to yield but drive around those dangerous roundabouts at 40 mph.

Second, too often, a “Stop” sign is nothing more than a suggestion. People either pay no attention to them, or they slowly cruise through them. Third, turn signals are just another of the many bells and whistles manufacturers put on cars for no apparent reason.

For those of us who try to follow the rules of the road, we are rewarded with the person behind us sitting on his horn (yep, Floridians sure know how to use those).

While I have enjoyed spending the winter here in our new home, I am really looking forward to getting back to New Jersey, with the rude and aggressive drivers. Frankly, they can’t hold a candle to drivers in Florida. I keep telling my husband I only hope we get out of here alive.
