We are from Ohio and just spent 2.5 months in Palm Beach Gardens and traveled to Gainesville, Bradenton, Naples, Fort Myers, Miami and Islamorada. What we noticed the most was the extreme speed and aggressive driving habits of those with Florida plates.

We found this unsafe, scary and rude. One reason it is so unsafe is because many drivers don’t use their turn signals. Why doesn’t this state have a law mandating this safety precaution? In Ohio, we have this law, and it is really a safeguard.

If my daughter didn’t live here and we want to spend time with our grandchildren, I wouldn’t come to Florida. The majority of drivers are doing 80 to 100 miles per hour on Interstate 95 and Florida’s Turnpike. The speed limit is 70 mph, but if you are going that speed, you are a hazard.

Where are the state troopers? You seldom see any. Gov. Rick Scott, don’t you have enough money to hire more police to stop this insanity? I see people running red lights in the cities on a regular basis. People tailgate, force their way into a lane and won’t let anyone merge even if they have their turn signal on.

We have been cursed at for going too slow in a school zone and almost run over in a crosswalk in a parking lot.

Editor’s note: Turn signaling by vehicle drivers and bicycle riders is required by Florida Statute 316.155.
